Sexual Dimorphic Rightward Lateralization of Cerebral Sulcal Infolding in Cynomolgus Monkeys (Macaca fascicularis)

Cerebral sulcal infolding exhibits unique species-related lateralization patterns. The present investigation aimed to characterize the asymmetric patterns of in cynomolgus monkeys and their sexual dimorphism. Three-dimensional magnetic resonance (MR) images were acquired at 7-Tesla from fixed brains adult male (n = 5) female monkeys. gyrification index (GI) was estimated on MR throughout cerebral cortex (global-GI) or representative primary sulci (sulcal-GI). global-GI did not differ between sexes when ipsilateral sides compared. Although there no sex difference sulcal-GI any sulci, a significant right bias noted inferior rams arcuate sulcus circular males but females. Secondary emergence examined assess asymmetry individual population levels. Nonbiased posterior supraprincipal dimple both rostral Notably, superior postcentral significantly right-lateralized findings revealed right-biased monkeys, although lateralized cortical regions differed sexes.
